The refractory material refining quality steel casted by Henan province has reached top level of China
Currently, tourisms learn from Technology Department of Henan that the project of refractory material refining quality steel undertook by Luoyang Refractory Research Institute has passed acceptance check.. By carrying such an project, they have solved the key technology problem of short life span of LF+VD refining ladle refractory material that used in casting steel, and the life span increases from 85 heats to 135 heats.
The person in charge of Technology Department of Henan has said that such a refractory material project has obtained two patents, formed productive capacity of 15 thousand ton per year and increased output value is 133 million. The appearing temperature of refractory material used by refining quality steel is lower 60℃~80℃ than ordinary ladle, which obviously reduces the power consumption of per ton steel, and very important for saving graphite and reduce heat loss of ladle.

Ten years ago, our company took the lead in developing the tundish metering nozzle quick-change patented technology. How to Build a Solid Arch Ceramic Kiln with Castable Refractory
Kilns can
be built out of many things and castable refractory is one of the materials we
rarely consider. Perhaps it should be considered more since the castable is reasonably
priced, easy to mix, and easy to use.
As John
Britt explains in today’s post, if you are comfortable with casting plaster and
making molds, you can handle building a solid arch kiln with castable
refractory. – Jennifer Harnetty, editor.
Casting an Arch
Determine
the size of your arch and cut enough expanded polystyrene arch pieces to form
the entire arch. Set it on four-inch “legs,” which can be dropped out after
casting. Make the exterior wooden mold form by cutting two identical arch
pieces out of 3⁄4-inch plywood that are longer than the foam arch by the
thickness of the kiln wall. Establish the length of the kiln and cut three 2×4s
to that length, attaching two to the bottom sides of the plywood arch forms and
one at the top (the top 2×4 is visible in image #1). Fill this form with the
polystyrene arches.
Mix the castable, paying
specific attention to the manufacturer’s instructions. You can use a commerical
castable,
Pryor-Giggey Phlocast 30 Low cement, and added Rib-Tec 400 1-inch stainless
steel pins. Use approximately four pounds of steel pins per 100 pounds of castablerefractory. When mixing, wear a respirator and use thick gloves—the castable is caustic
and the pins are sharp.
Pour the castable in
4-inch-high sections made from 3⁄4-inch plywood strips so the castable refractory
don’t bow, being sure to pack down and smooth out each section. Form a V-shaped
groove at the top of each section and let the castable refractory harden. Separate each section with plastic wrap before repeating—the plastic
creates an expansion joint. After the castable castablehas cured for 24
hours, take the outer plywood off and drop the legs out from underneath,
allowing the interior expanded polystyrene forms to drop out.

Application and development of reproducing alumina magnesia carbon brick
Alumina magnesia carbon brick, with Al2O3, MgO and C are carbon-containing refractory
as a main component. Containing Al2O3 60% ~ 69%, MgO7% ~ 14%, C5% ~
12%. It has good slag resistance and thermal shock resistance; there are
trace amounts of heavy firing expansion. To enhance its antioxidant
activity, may be appropriate in the ingredients of Si powder, Al powder,
Sic powder or ferrosilicon powder additives to the resin as binder,
pressure forming, after 200 ~ 300 ℃ can be used without calcined. They
are characterized by high strength, good corrosion and erosion
resistance, spalling resistance. Alumina magnesia carbon brick is mainly used for large converters and ultra-high power electric furnace ladle refining furnace lining and so on. It is a good refractory lining materials for ladle wall and bottom.
Alumina magnesia carbon brick is mainly used as a ladle lining brick and taphole brick. In recent years, it gets good results after application in several steel mills. Such as in Zhengzhou the first steel mill, 5 tons EAF and 15tons ladle. The service life is usually about 60-70 times. It saves cost and improves economic efficiency.
The reproducing alumina magnesia carbon bricks were prepared with the dumped bricks as starting materials. The bulk density, apparent porosity, crushing strength, modulus of rupture and slag resistance of the specimen were analyzed. The results show that the used refractories can be reused and recycled by the right method. The reproducing alumina-magnesia-carbon bricks with better abilities were prepared!
In a word, the development prospect of alumina magnesia carbon brick is broad. They will be widely used in electric furnace and converter of steel plant in the future. The economic efficiency is remarkable.

The necessary refractory material for cement industry, the second largest consumption field of refractory material, mainly cover basic refractory material (magnesite brick, magnesite-chrome brick, magnesite-alumina brick, etc.), Al-Si refractory material (high alumina brick, fireclay insulating brick, etc.), and heat insulation refractory material. Wherein, magnesite-chrome brick is most commonly employed in cement kiln firing zone; nevertheless, chromium ion brings about serious pollution against high temperature, magnesite-chrome brick has therefore been gradually replaced by chrome-free refractory material like dolomite brick and magnesia spinel brick in recent years.
Apart from the supply and demand of refractory market, this report underlines not only the market segments of fusion-casting refractory, basic refractory material, unshaped refractory material, and ceramic fiber but the industrial competition pattern including regional pattern and enterprise pattern.
Refractory production bases have gradually taken shape in Henan, Shandong, Liaoning, and Shanxi, centering on the characteristics of various raw mateiral origins. In 2010, the output of the above mentioned four bases contributed 87.9% to the national total, of which, Henan ranked the first with approximately 50% share. Silicon Carbide Refractories
Silicon carbide refractories are classified, according to the method of bonding the silicon carbide granules, as siliceous (formed in the oxidation of carbide), nitride (Si3N4), oxynitride (Si2ON2), and aluminosilicate, as well as recrystallized and self-bonded. The products are formed on presses (or by other methods) from powdered mixtures containing silicon carbide and subsequently fired at 1300°-1550°C (certain types at 2000°-2200°C).
Silicon carbide refractories exhibit high thermal conductivity: 7-17 watts per (m.°K) at 800°C. As a result, they show good thermal stability. They are also resistant to deformation at elevated temperatures. At 130O°-1500°C in an oxidizing medium they undergo gradual oxidation, particularly in the presence of an excess of oxygen and of water vapor. Silicon carbide refractories are used in recuperators, retort furnaces, nonferrous-metal-lurgy plant units, shelves of tunnel wagons (in firing porcelain and ceramics), and boilers.
